      Sh. Manish Garg, Chief Electoral Officer Himachal Pradesh launched the Election Quiz Mobile App on 10th May 2024 in Dharamshala District Kangra. The idea of Mobile App has been envisaged by  Sh. Hem Raj Bairwa, District Election Officer, Kangra with an objective to educate and actively involve the staff being deployed for various election duties. The Mobile App has been designed and developed by National Informatics Centre, Himachal Pradesh and is available on android and iOS platform. This app will be used by all polling officials who are being deployed on election duty in the forthcoming General Elections for Lok Sabha 2024 in Himachal Pradesh.

      Separate question bank has been created for Presiding Officer, Micro Observer and Counting Staff. The app provides mechanism to conduct quiz consisting of 20 multiple choice questions picked randomly from the question bank. The participant (deployed polling/counting officials) has to answer these questions which are covering various aspects of the electoral process related with the duty to be performed by the participant.

      The participant can take multiple quiz till the performance of the participant is satisfactory. Immediate feedback on quiz performance will help users to understand their mistakes and learn from them. Their strengths and weaknesses will also be available to RO and AROs. All the previous attempts score will also be available to individual polling official through this app. The response given by individual and the correct answer of each question will also be shown to the individual.

      The idea behind this initiative is to familiarize the Presiding Officers, Polling Officials and Micro-observers with the Election process and to understand as to what are their duties and know the steps to be taken in different situations that may arise on polling day. Training materials, Do and Don’t is also provided in the app to educate the deployed staff.

      The “Election Quiz” App has been meticulously designed to enhance the skills, reinforce the learning, and motivate the polling personnel. This app is an innovative tool aimed at ensuring that all individuals involved in the election process are well-prepared, knowledgeable, and confident in their roles to perform the election duty.

      Sh. Bhupinder Pathak, DIO Kangra gave detailed presentation of various features of this app during the launch. During the launch, Sh. Manish Garg (IAS), Chief Electoral Officer, Himachal Pradesh, Sh. Hem Raj Bairwa (IAS) Deputy Commissioner cum District Election Officer Kangra, Mrs. Shalini Agnihotri (IPS) Superintendent of Police Kangra, Sh. Ashok Rattan, (IPS) Superintendent of Police Nurpur, Sh. Saurabh Jassal (IAS) ADC Kangra, Sh. Akshay Mehta, ADIO Kangra and all the AROs were present.

      The Himachal Pradesh Police Department organised “Road Safety Awards Ceremony” on 25th April, 2024 at Police Headquarters, in Shimla. The objective of the event was to honour the citizens and officials who have worked effectively in promoting road safety, including officials from various departments like the Police, Transport, Public Works Department, National Informatics Centre and National Highway Authority of India.

      Hon’ble Governor of Himachal Pradesh, Shri Shiv Pratap Shukla graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and honoured the citizens and officials of various departments who have excelled in the field of road safety.

      The Integrated Road Accident Database (iRAD) mobile and web application developed by NIC was also appreciated at the event. The Police Department also appreciated the work done by the NIC Himachal Pradesh team in providing training and technical support for the successful implementation of the iRAD project. Hon’ble Governor awarded Shri Ankush Thakur (State Rollout Manager) from NIC Himachal Pradesh and 16 officers of the Police Department from various districts for the good work done in the iRAD Project.

    • Cyber Security Awareness Workshops for Government Officers Organised by NIC District Units in Himachal Pradesh

      A series of workshops on Cyber Security of Digital Assets and Critical Information Infrastructure have been conducted by NIC District Units in Himachal Pradesh at District Headquarters. The basic objective of these workshops is to make Government Officials, at higher levels, aware about the potential threats in this era of Digitization and Internet.

      The workshops were organized under the chairpersonship of respective Deputy Commissioners who delivered the keynote address and stressed upon ensuring complete cyber security in the office work as per guidelines issued by CERT-IN and NIC from time to time. The heads of various Departments at District level have attended these workshops along with their nodal IT officers.  A total of 402 Government officials have participated in these 10 workshops.

      The DIOs and ADIOs are the key persons in these workshops and their presentations were oriented towards different type of threats prevailing these days and how officials can safeguard their organizations and computers from these threats. The emphasis was given on keeping strong passwords, installing latest patches for software, Anti-Virus installation on all the machines, getting software/mobile applications security audited every year and removing obsolete hardware/software items. The cyber threats like Malware, Phishing Attacks, Distributed Denial of Service Attack, Ransomware, etc. were covered too. The officials were made aware about importance of Cyber Security in mitigating the Cyber threats. They were also briefed about the Digital Personnel Data Protection (DPDP) Act, 2023 and the role of Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In).
